PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT ITEMS:

- FrameMaker 2026 is the same as FrameMaker 18.

- If you have custom settings (especially scheme data) from a previous version, a normal installation may overwrite them. To preserve scheme data, you should make a backup of your main settings file, wherever you store it. If you need help with this, please contact West Street.

- If you are upgrading from an older version of AXCM, you should remove the entry for WS_XPath.dll from your maker.ini file, if it still exists. This DLL file is obsolete and may cause trouble if run in parallel with this version of AXCM.

- The installation package contains separate DLL files for each supported version of FrameMaker. Be sure to specify the correct file in the instructions below.

To install AXCM:

1. In your FrameMaker installation directory, create a "WestStreet" subfolder, if one does not currently exist. (no quotes on the actual folder name)

NOTE: THIS DIRECTORY CAN ACTUALLY BE ANYWHERE ON YOUR HARD DRIVE, BUT YOU WILL NEED TO ADJUST THE PATH IN THE maker.ini FILE APPROPRIATELY.

2. Extract all contents of the ZIP file directly into that folder, not under any further subfolders. If given the option, be sure to maintain the existing folder structure as it is contained in the ZIP file.

NOTE: IF PROMPTED TO OVERWRITE ANY FILES, CHOOSE "YES".

3. In your FrameMaker installation directory, find and open maker.ini in any text file editor.

NOTE: RECENT VERSIONS OF FRAMEMAKER INCLUDE A PERSONALIZED VERSION OF maker.ini IN THE WINDOWS "USER PROFILE" AREA, with a path something like: "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker". You may want to edit this file instead, adding an API Clients section if necessary.

4. At the bottom of the API Clients section, add the following line, using the proper DLL file for your version of FrameMaker. For example, for FrameMaker 2015:

AXCM = Standard, AXCM, WestStreet\AXCM_FM2015.dll, structured

For FM2017 or 32-bit FM2019, use the 2015 build as shown above. For 64-bit FM2019:

AXCM = Standard, AXCM, WestStreet\AXCM_FM2019_x64.dll, structured

   For FM2020:

AXCM = Standard, AXCM, WestStreet\AXCM_FM2020.dll, structured

   For FM2022:

AXCM = Standard, AXCM, WestStreet\AXCM_FM2022.dll, structured

   For FM2026 (FM18):

AXCM = Standard, AXCM, WestStreet\AXCM_FM18.dll, structured

NOTE: IF YOU PUT THE INSTALLATION FILES IN A CUSTOM LOCATION, YOU MUST ADJUST THE PATH TO THE DLL FILE AS APPROPRIATE.

4. If desired, edit the AXCM.ini file that you extracted to cause settings to be stored in the installation area, versus the Windows Documents and Settings area. Most users should skip this step and use default settings. See the User Guide for more information.

5. Close and save maker.ini and start (or restart) FrameMaker. Note the new AXCM menu.

To uninstall AXCM:

1. Delete any files and folders installed as instructed above.
2. Remove or comment out the line added to maker.ini in the installation procedure.

NOTE: AXCM includes a comprehensive User Guide and tutorials to get you started, provided as a separate ZIP file.

Thank you for installing AXCM. If you have any problems with installation, please contact us at info@weststreetconsulting.com.
